Default The LvL 15 Trader in Ascalon -- Savvy Capitalist or Noob Predator?

Opinions?

Personally I like the free wheeling trading system that Guildwars seems to encourage.

I'll say though that I was somewhat depressed to find out the bolts of cloth I payed hundreds for could be easily picked up at later lvls.

That said I can see why trading "junk" is so popular in Ascalon ... it's an easy way to make hundreds of gold.

I think the going rate for a bolt of cloth is about 20 gp in Ascalon ... at least that's what most people were asking last BWE.

Its pretty nice trading in GW too. I just yelled "Selling minor blood rune" and boom hehehe 3 PMs. Same thing with steel ignots, But the guy gave me 700 for 2 steel ignots hehehe.

Sadly when the game realeases the prices will most likely slowly drop to the lowest possible.

Yeah, the beta gave people the potential to rip everyone off in the towns and cities while trading. Mainly, I feel, because most of the players wanted to tryout all that they could, and to do so required paying a little extra for certain materials/items. Things were in high demand and price, such as black dye, as it was not that common of a drop.

I say, once release hits, the economy will level out as people get more time to explore, and everything is not as rushed.

The economy was totally messed up, I dunno if I'd blame the game (developpers) though, moreso the huge amount of extremely greedy and generous players. By the end of this event I had 14000 gold, and that was after I was spending massively on the temple missions and dyes. I also had a full vault and inventory (fully upgraded inventory space) of valueable stuff, mostly crafting materials, runes, rare/high-stat items, upgrades, probably worth another 15k.

I saw People selling steel (and other stuff) for mad high prices, as well as tons of other stuff. personalyl I wouldn't sell mine for more than 150g each, although I don't think i ever ended up selling any, althoguh I think i gave 15 or so to somone who needed them.

I also saw runes and upgrades going for quite cheap, much cheaper than I'd say they're worth, which was usually around 70-250 for minor runes&upgrades.

Scales seemed to be virtually the only item at the trader that wasn't "buy for 15g each, sell for 1-5g each", and they were surprizingly valueable, they would buy at traders from anywhere from 30-90g each depending when you checked, and would sell for appropriate values, something like 20-60g each.
I think i had about 140 scales, again all I did was give them away. They were quite easy to come by. Only thing that seemed rare was silk this BWE. I didn't find one silk the entire BWE, but then again I didn't really do the jungle missions. They used to salvage from armors, but I didn't get any from them, I think they ethier removed, or made them extremely rare salvages from armors now (IMO armors are now just another monster trophy which never yields any rare materials anymore)
Which reminds me, so those monster trophies yield any rares? I tried experting them a bit, but stopped bothering pretty quick because it didn't yield anything.

On another note: anyone get more than 39 of a resource from one drop? I was kinda surprized when that much glittering dust dropped from some monster.

Oh yeah, fur squares were rare too right? I think i only found one, but dropped it cause I didn't have inventory space for it.

It's capitalism folks. It'll eventually iron itself out. I would always check out the outfitter's price and only sell items 2g or 3g higher than they asked. That way they get a fair price, especially, since I didn't identify many things.

Most of the time I just wanted to unload my backpack. If no one wanted to buy I just sold it off to the Outfitter and did more questing.
